What's his name? Seriously!

THE MacBETH REPORT:
F Layne Ulmer (Swift Current, 1997-2001) signed a one-year contract extension with Asiago (Italy, Serie A). He had 29 goals and 29 assists in 44 games last season. This will be Ulmer’s fifth season with Asiago, which won the Italian championship last season on Ulmer's goal with 22 seconds gone in the first overtime period in Game 6 of the final against Valpellice. The game-winner completed Ulmer's hat trick. . . .

D Martin Grundling (Moose Jaw, 2005-07) signed a one-year contract with Arystan Temirtau (Kazakhstan, Vysshaya Liga). He had one goal in 48 games with Karlovy Vary (Czech Republic, Extraliga) last season. . . .

Czech-ELH

Jeff Battah is back with the Lethbridge Hurricanes as their goaltender coach. Battah filled that role with the Hurricanes from 2004-08. Last season, he worked with the BCHL’s Nanaimo Clippers. The Everett Silvertips announced Friday that F Jujhar Khaira, 19, will be in training camp when it opens next week. Khaira was a third-round selection by the Edmonton Oilers in the NHL’s 2012 draft. The Silvertips acquired his rights from the Prince George Cougars at the 2013 bantam draft. Khaira will leave Everett’s camp to play for the Oilers’ team at the Young Stars Classic tournament in Penticton, B.C. Because Khaira was drafted out of junior (BCHL’s Prince George Spruce Kings), he has to play in the NHL or Everett. He played last season for the Michigan Tech Huskies, putting up 25 points in 37 games. . . . Nick Patterson of the Everett Herald has more right here.

The Arena Football League just may announce today that it has sold a franchise to the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers. The AFL team would play out of the Moda Center, the facility formerly known as the Rose Garden. . . . John Canzano of The Oregonian has more right here.

And now for something completely different.
Beezow Doo-Doo Zopittybop-Bop-Bop is in trouble with the law. Seriously. . . . That’s his name, and there’s more right here. (A tip of the hat to Chris Peters for the tweet.)

2013 Playoffs
The WHL’s playoff situation:
EASTERN CONFERENCE
THIRD ROUND
Edmonton (1) vs. Calgary (3)
(Series tied 1-1; Game 3 on Tuesday night in Calgary; all games on Shaw TV, with Dan Russell calling the play.)
———
WESTERN CONFERENCE
THIRD ROUND
Portland (1) vs. Kamloops (3)
(Portland leads series, 2-0; Game 3 on Tuesday night in Kamloops.)
———
SATURDAY’S GAME:
In Portland, G Mac Carruth stopped 27 shots as the Winterhawks blanked the Kamloops Blazers, 4-0. . . . Carruth has three shutouts in these playoffs and seven in his career. . . . In seven April games, Carruth is 7-0, 0.71, .975. . . . F Ty Rattie and F Brendan Leipsic each had a goal and two assists for the Winterhawks. . . . Rattie now has a WHL-leading 25 points in the playoffs, four more than F JC Lipon of Kamloops, who was pointless for a second straight game. . . . The Blazers were 0-for-5 on the PP and now are 0-for-10 in the series. . . . The Winterhawks were 2-for-8 and now are 3-for-11. . . . Rattie’s goal increased his career playoff point total to 82, putting him in a tie for fourth place tie with F Brad Moran (Calgary, 1995-2000) on the alltime list. Rattie then broke the tie with an assist on Portland’s third goal. Another assist put him at 84 points, two behind F Rob Brown (Kamloops, 1983-87), who is in third spot. . . . No doubt disappointing conspiracy theorists, the WHL chose not to suspend Rattie for his checking-from-behind major and game misconduct in the third period of Game 1 on Friday. Kamloops F Chase Souto, who was hit on that play, took a spearing minor at the time, so perhaps the WHL took that into consideration. . . . Rattie also has 43 playoff goals, four off the record held by former Medicine Hat Tigers F Mark Pederson. . . . Carruth set a WHL record for career playoff appearances by a goaltender. This was his 66th postseason game, one more than Cam Ward (Red Deer, 2001-04). . . . Attendance was 9,132. . . . The Blazers hadn’t been blanked in a playoff game since March 23, 2002, when Shane Bendera and the Kelowna Rockets beat them 3-0 in Kamloops. The Blazers played 57 postseason games between blankings.

Well, that’s it for the ECHL’s Victoria Salmon Kings.
F Scott Howes scored twice, including the winner at 19:25 of the third period, as the visiting Anchorage Aces beat the Salmon Kings 3-2 Monday night to sweep the Western Conference final, 4-0.
The Salmon Kings are owned by Vancouver-based RG Properties, which holds the management contract for Victoria’s Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre. RG Properties recently purchased the Chillwack Bruins and is moving the WHL team to Victoria. The Salmon Kings, then, have played their final game in the B.C. capital.
F Chad Klassen (Spokane, Saskatoon, 2001-06), who joined the Salmon Kings from the U of Alberta Golden Bears in time to play in one regular-season game before the playoffs, scored the last goal in franchise history.
Attendance was 3,153.

THE COACHING GAME: Roman Vopat (Moose Jaw, Prince Albert, 1994-96) has agreed to serve as a volunteer assistant coach with the KIJHL’s Kimberley Dynamiters. Vopat played this season with HC Litvinov in his native Czech Republic but has chosen to retire after 18 seasons as a pro. He was the Litvinov captain for the last two seasons. "It's always difficult when you do something for such a long time and it's been pretty much your whole life," Vopat, 35, told Matt Coxford of the Cranbrook Daily Townsman. "But on the other hand I was playing in Europe the last 10 years and this year was especially hard because the family stayed behind." Vopat, his wife and two sons live in Cranbrook. . . . The junior B Dynamiters haven’t yet named a head coach.
