WHAT HAPPENED
The Blazers played without much emotion and didn’t have an answer for
Kelowna’s offence, which scored six times and hit iron on four occasions.
THE STANDINGS
The Blazers (25-25-1-4) are fifth in the Western Conference, eight points
behind the Rockets (30-19-1-2). The Blazers are four points ahead of the
Everett Silvertips (22-23-6-1)
THE SEASON SERIES
This was the sixth meeting of the season between these teams. The Rockets
are 6-0-0-0, with one of the victories coming in a shootout.
THE HOMESTAND
This was the fourth game in a five-game Kamloops homestand that concludes
tonight with a visit by the Silvertips. . . . After tonight, the Blazers
will play six straight on the road. They return home to face the Vancouver
Giants on Feb. 21.
THE 20-GOAL MEN
The Blazers have five 20-goal men — C.J. Stretch (23), Shayne Wiebe (23),
Tyler Shattock (22), Jimmy Bubnick (21) and Kenton Dulle (20) — for the
first time since 2002-03.
THE MILESTONE
The Blazers will play the 2,000th game in franchise history on Saturday in
Kelowna. This is the 25th season of Blazers season; also included in the
total are the three seasons as the Junior Oilers.
THE MISSING GAME
In the franchise’s first season as the Blazers, a game scheduled for March
23 in Victoria was cancelled due to problems with the ice plant. It wasn’t
rescheduled, Had it been played, tonight’s game with the Everett Silvertips
would be No. 2,000.
THE SCOUTS
Actually, they’re coaches, but they were scouting. Everett head coach John
Becanic and associate coach Jay Varady were in the house getting a look at
their club’s next two opponents.
