Injury bug bites Brandon, Spokane

The Brandon Wheat Kings took a hit Thursday when they learned that RW Scott Glennie, who is tied for sixth in the WHL scoring derby, will be out indefinitely with a broken left elbow. He was injured in Saturday’s 7-6 OT victory over the Hitmen in Calgary. He has 66 points, including 27 goals, in 52 games. The Wheat Kings are at home to the Prince Albert Raiders on Friday and the Edmonton Oil Kings on Saturday. . . .

D Jared Cowen of the Spokane Chiefs won’t play again this season. He will have surgery to repair torn MCL and ACL ligaments in a knee that was injured Friday in a 6-0 victory over the visiting Chilliwack Bruins. Cowen, who turned 18 on Jan. 25, was ranked seventh in NHL Central Scouting’s midseason ratings of players eligible for the 2009 draft. Will his stock drop before the draft? "If people are thinking about that, they'll make a mistake," Spokane GM Tim Speltz told Steve Ewen of the Vancouver Province. "If he drops, it's not a reflection on him. It's a reflection on scouting."
UPDATE: From a Chiefs' press release -- "Spokane Chiefs defenseman Jared Cowen will have reconstructive surgery on his right knee and will miss the remainder of the season. Cowen suffered an MCL sprain and a high grade injury to his ACL after finishing a check in a 6-0 win over the Chilliwack Bruins on Friday, January 30th.
"Cowen is expected to have surgery in the next three weeks. Rehab will be up to five months and he will be ready for the 2009-10 season."
