Wednesday . . .

The Prince George Cougars got their roster down to 25 on Wednesday by assigning D Tyler Miller, 18, to the BCHL’s Merritt Centennials. Miller was pointless and had nine penalty minutes in two games with the Cougars. Miller, who is from Prince George, played 28 games with the BCHL’s Westside Warriors last season. . . . The Cougars are carrying 13 forwards and 10 defencemen at the moment.

D Tyler Myers, 19, the WHL’s playoff MVP last spring, will start the NHL season on the roster of the Buffalo Sabres. If Myers doesn’t play with the Sabres, he has to be returned to the Kelowna Rockets. . . . The Rockets also had held out at least some of hope of getting back C Colin Long, 20, but he has signed a three-year deal with the NHL’s Phoenix Coyotes and will start the season with the AHL’s San Antonio Rampage.

The Tri-City Americans have signed D Riley Guenther, who was a third-round selection in the 2009 WHL bantam draft. Guenther played last season with the bantam AAA Calgary Sabres, recording 22 points in 32 games and was named to the AMBHL all-star team. Guenther will play this season with the midget AAA Calgary Northstars. . . . The Americans now have signed their first three picks from the 2009 draft.

Yes, the Everett Silvertips are still in the WHL. They’re just enjoying (?) 10 days off between games. And what does a WHL team do with 10 days off this early in the season, and how did that happen? Nick Patterson of the Everett Herald has that story right here.

There was a trade in the OHL on Tuesday. A story and photo about that trade are right here. Surely there is a lesson there somewhere.

The Pats lifted G Damien Ketlo in the last minute of the third period because of concerns over a groin injury that siedelined him for three games. His status for the club’s next game, against the visiting Swift Current Broncos on Friday, is uncertain.
