In Portland, F Ryan Howse and F Roman Horak each scored twice to help the Chilliwack Bruins to a 5-4 victory over the Winterhawks. . . . Howse broke a 4-4 tie with his 18th goal of hte season at 13:10 of the third period. The goal was scored on the PP as the Bruins (9-12-1-3) went 3-for-8. . . . Portland was 1-for-6. . . . Attendance in the Rose Garden was 3,971. . . . Howse also had an assist. . . . Horak has eight goals this season. . . . F Tayler Jordan scored his first goal of the season for Portland. He has five goals in 130 regular-season games. . . . Chilliwack G Mark Friesen stopped 24 shots. . . . Portland G Kurtis Mucha made 40 saves.

In Vancouver, G Calvin Pickard stopped 25 shots for his second shutout in two nights as the Seattle Thunderbirds beat the Giants, 5-0. . . . Pickard has three shutouts this season and six in his career. . . . Pickard blanked the Silvertips 4-0 in Everett on Saturday and now is working on a shutout streak of 131 minutes 50 seconds. . . . The Thunderbirds (8-12-1-3) won for the third time in as many nights and the victories all came on the road. . . . Seattle has won four straight overall, all on the road. . . . Seattle got two goals each from F Prab Rai and Sena Acolatse. . . . Acolatse, who has six goals in his last six games, has eight goals in 22 games this season. He scored seven in each of the previous two seasons. . . . Rai, a Vancouver Canucks’ prospect, got the game’s last two goals. He has 11. . . . Vancouver (15-7-1-2) had a three-game win streak end. . . . Attendance was 7,876. . . . Seattle was 3-for-5 on the PP; Vancouver was 0-for-5. . . . The Giants were without D Kevin Connauton (one-game WHL suspension) and D Zach Hodder (shoulder). . . . The Giants have been blanked twice this season. . . . Vancouver beat the visiting Red Deer Rebels 4-1 on Saturday and head coach Don Hay gave the Giants a day off Saturday. That won’t be the case today. “If they don’t want to hit in games, we’ll hit in practice,” he told Ian Walker of the Vancouver Sun.

In Swift Current, F Justin Dowling, the fourth third shooter, scored the only goal of the shootout as the Broncos got past the Edmonton Oil Kings, 5-4. . . . The Broncos scored first — F Brad Hoban on the PP at 10::23 of the PP — and the teams alternated goals until Edmonton F Tomas Vincour forced OT with a PP goal at 13:48 of the third. . . . The Broncos (12-10-0-2) were 3-for-4 on the PP; the Oil Kings were 2-for-6. . . . F Cody Eakin of the Broncos scored his WHL-leading 22nd goal and also had three assists. He has 33 points in 24 games. . . . D Drew Nichol and F Michael St. Croix each had two assists for Edmonton (8-11-2-4). . . . Swift Current is 12-2-0-0 at home. . . . Swift Current G Morgan Clark stopped 35 shots before turning aside three more in the shootout. . . . Edmonton G Torrie Jung stopped 38 shots through OT. . . . Attendance was 1,957.

In Brandon, the Wheat Kings blew a 7-3 third-period lead before beating the Regina Pats 8-7 in overtime on D Colby Robak’s second goal of the game. . . . Robak has six goals this season. He won this one at 2:12 of the extra period. . . . The Wheat Kings (13-9-0-2) led this one 7-3 with less than nine minutes to play in the third period. But the Pats tied on goals from F Brett Leffler (11:38), F Jordan Eberle (13:20), F Jordan Weal (14:27) and F Matt Strueby (15:22). . . . F Matt Calvert finished with six points, including four assists, for Brandon, while F Brayden Schenn had two goals and three assists. . . . Brandon D Alexander Urbom added a goal and two assists. . . . Eberle had two goals and three helpers for the Pats (10-11-3-0), with Weal adding three assists to his goal. . . . Strueby had two goals and now has 14 on the season. . . . Calvert upped his total to 16 goals. . . . Brandon G Jacob De Serres stopped 38 shots. . . . Regina opened with Dawson Guhle in goal. He stopped three of six shots, before Damien Ketlo came on to finish up. He turned aside 19 of 24 shots. . . . Attendance was 3,889.

In Lethbridge, F Matt Fraser scored in overtime as the Kootenay Ice beat the Hurricanes, 3-2. . . . Fraser scored his seventh goal of the season with 27 seconds left in extra time. . . . F Steele Boomer got his eighth goal for the Ice (10-12-1-0) and also set up Fraser’s goal. . . . Lethbridge F Mitch Maxwell forced OT with his 13th goal, a shorthanded score, at 6:01 of the third period. . . . F Dustin Sylvester scored shorthanded for the Ice in the second period. . . . G Todd Mathews stopped 27 shots for Kootenay. . . . G Brandon Anderson made 44 saves for Lethbridge (8-13-3-0). . . . Attendance was 2,885.

In Spokane, G James Reid stopped 26 shots for the shutout as the Chiefs got past the Kelowna Rockets, 1-0. . . . F Brady Brassart, who scored his first WHL goal in a 6-1 victory over the visiting Kamloops Blazers on Saturday, notched this game’s lone goal at 3:53 of the second period. . . . Reid has two shutouts this season and sixth in his career. . . . The Chiefs, having won six of seven, are 12-7-1-0. . . . The Rockets (11-11-1-0) lost three games on a three-night swing into the U.S. Division and are 0-8 against American teams this season. . . . Attendance was 4,319. . . . Kelowna G Adam Brown stopped 20 shots. . . . The Rockets, who were blanked for the first time this season, dressed only 18 players. Four players sat out with the flu — D Tyson Barrie, D MacKenzie Johnston, RW Spencer Main and D Kyle Verdino. . . . Kelowna F Lucas Bloodoff missed Saturday’s 3-2 loss to the Winterhawks in Portland with the flu but played in Spokane.
