Craig Hartsburg, the head coach of the Everett Silvertips, is expected to miss the remainder of the season's first half. He has been diagnosed with an ascending aortic aneurysm.
According to a news release from the Silvertips, Hartsburg "will undergo a heart catheterization at Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett on Wednesday, with surgery to follow in the coming weeks."
Associated head coach Jay Varady will serve as head coach until Hartsburg returns. Assistant coach Chris Hartsburg — yes, he is Craig's son — also will have an expanded role.
