The Prince George Citizen is reporting that Ryan Hill of the BCHL's Prince George Spruce Kings has been charged with assault with a weapon stemming from an incident in a Feb. 24 game against the visiting Quesnel Millionaires.
Hill is to make his first court appearance on Oct. 3.
In the incident, which was posted on YouTube, Hill skated from the area of the Spruce Kings' bench and delivered a crosscheck to the neck area of Quesnel's Solomon McCann. Moments earlier, McCann had checked Prince George defenceman Jeff Forsythe, who left with a knee injury. As often happens in the jungle that can be junior hockey, a fight followed that hit, and it was during the ensuing stoppage that Hill dropped McCann.
Later, Elgin McCann, Solomon's father, provided video of the incident to the RCMP, which began a criminal investigation.
