Some notes from today . . .
1. The B.C. Supreme Court ruled today that the Kamloops Blazers Sports Society doesn't need to change its constitution in order to entertain offers. The court also ruled that a members' vote of 50 per cent plus one is enough to carry the day. The society had felt that it needed to change its constitution and that a vote of 75 per cent was needed. Next up will be a meeting of members, perhaps on Aug. 23 (also the opening day of the team's training camp), at which they will be asked if they wish to sell the assets.
2. The Blazers now have two offers on the table, one from River City Hockey Inc., which is headed up by Vancouver businessman Tom Gaglardi. The other is from Mike Priestner, who owns the Edmonton-based Mike Priestner Automotive Group. Gaglardi's group includes ex-Blazers Shane Doan, Jarome Iginla, Mark Recchi and Darryl Sydor. Priestner spent one season as a goaltender with the Kamloops Chiefs.
3. Much more on the Blazers later tonight.
4. The Portland Winter Hawks named Rich Kromm the fifth head coach in franchise history today. That, of course, was expected. The new news is that assistants Brian Pellerin and Kyle Gustafson, each with one year left on a contract, are expected to be retained.
5. The Boston Bruins have signed C Zach Hamill of the Everett Silvertips to a three-year entry-level contract. Hamill is the WHL's defending scoring champion. The 18-year-old Hamill was the eighth pick in the 2007 NHL draft.
