FRIDAY’S GAMES
Brandon 6, Moose Jaw 2: The host Wheat Kings (3-0) went 4-for-14 on the power play in beating the Warriors (1-4). Brayden Schenn, with two, Matt Calvert, Tyler Dittmer, Sanfred King and Mark Louis scored for Brandon. Jason Bast and Giffen Nyren counted for the Warriors. Brandon started Joe Caligiuri in goal and he stopped 11 of 12 shots before Deven Dubyk came on to stop eight of nine. Moose Jaw’s Kurt Jory made 28 saves. . . . The Warriors were 2-for-6 on the PP. . . . Brandon will be without D Dylan Yeo, 20, at least three weeks after he has arthroscopic knee surgery. He was injured in the club’s intrasquad game but has practised with the club since then. The Wheat Kings are carrying four 20-year-olds — Yeo, Dittmer, Louis and Daryl Boyle.

Kamloops 3, Kelowna 1: G Justin Leclerc stopped 21 shots to lead the host
Blazers (6-1), who got goals from Tyler Shattock, his sixth, Juuso Puustinen and Alex Rodgers. Colin Long replied for Kelowna, at 19:13 of the third period. The game took one hour 50 minutes to play and was all but devoid of intensity. Kelowna G Torrie Jung stopped 27 shots. Kamloops was 1-for-7 on the PP; Kelowna was 0-for-5. Kamloops finished the preseason 6-1. The Rockets are 1-5 with one game remaining, tonight against the visiting Chilliwack Bruins.

Kootenay 5, Edmonton 0: G Kris Lazaruk and Thomas Heemskerk combined for 26 saves to share the shutout for the Ice (2-2) in Cranbrook. Jiri Ryzuk, Kevin King, Steele Boomer, Andrew Bailey and Clayton Bauer scored for the Ice. Alex Archibald and Dalyn Flette combined for 20 saves in Edmonton’s goal. The Oil Kings are 3-3.

Calgary 4, Red Deer 3: In Lacombe, Alta., the Hitmen (2-3) got two goals from Brett Sonne and singles from Ian Duval and Brendan Rowinski. Landon Ferraro, WIllie Coetzee and Zak Stebner replied for Red Deer (2-3), which trailed 4-1 midway in the third period. Dan Spence started in goal for Calgary and stopped eight of nine shots. Martin Jones came on at 8:43 of the second and stopped 11 of 13. At the other end, Red Deer went with Travis Rolheiser (20 of 22) and Morgan Clark (14 of 16). The Hitmen were 0-for-8 on the PP; the Rebels were 2-for-6.

Saskatoon 7, Prince Albert 6 (SO): In Lloydminster, the Raiders (3-3) trailed by four goals in the third period before rallying and forcing the shootout. In the shootout, Derek Hulak and Chris Durand scored for Saskatoon (2-3) on G David Aime, while Blades G Braden Holtby stopped Ryan McDonald and Matt Robertson. Travis Toomey and Dustin Cameron had two goals each for the Blades in regulation time, with Brett Ward and Hulak adding one apiece. The Raiders got two goals each from Devon LeBlanc and Nathan Deck, with Robertson and Bryce Lamb adding singletons. . . . The blades were 2-for-8 on the PP; the Raiders were 3-for-8. . . . Saskatoon, which outshot the Raiders 32-31, finished its exhibition schedule at 2-2-1-0. The Raiders are 3-2-0-1.

Swift Current 5, Regina 0: In Kindersley, Sask., the Broncos improved to 4-2, while the Pats slipped to 3-3. Sorry, no further details. The game may have been played under the WHL’s Maxwell Smart Memorial Cone of Silence.

Spokane 6, Tri-City 0: In Spokane, Judd Blackwater scored three times as the Chiefs ran their record to 6-0 in their final preseason game. Three of the victories were over the Americans. Jace Coyle, Ondrej Roman and Justin Falk also scored for the Chiefs. Spokane goaltenders Dustin Tokarski and Kevin Armstrong combined for 13 saves. The Chiefs outscored their opposition 29-9 in the six victories. Spokane opens the regular season with a Friday-Saturday doubleheader in Prince George against the Cougars, who went 1-4. . . . The Americans have a win, four losses and a tie.

Vancouver 3, Chilliwack 2 (SO): In Ladner, B.C., James Wright of the Giants was the only scorer out of six attempts in the shootout. Mike Wuchterl and Mike Piluso scored for the Giants, with Cody Hobbs and Donnie Glennie counting for the Bruins. Vancouver outshot the Bruins, 31-16, with Mark Friesen going the distance in Chilliwack’s goal. Jamie Tucker and Kraymer Barnstable split the goaltending for Vancouver. . . . Chilliwack D Kevin Boutilier got a boarding major in the third period after knocking Vancouver’s Craig Cunningham into the boards. Cunningham came out of it with a cut to his noggin. . . . The Giants have five wins, a loss and a tie. The Bruins are 2-3 but have lost their last three going into a Saturday game in Kelowna.
