The Tri-City Americans traded LW Chris Inglis, 19, to the Lethbridge Hurricanes in July, getting D Colin Frederickson, 17, in return. Inglis, who is from Calgary, had 17 points and 168 penalty minutes last season. But after getting beaten in an offseason incident -- according to the Lethbridge Herald, the Hurricanes say it was a street fight -- in his hometown, Inglis isn’t even on the Hurricanes’ roster. According to the Herald, "General manager Roy Stasiuk said the incident happened two weeks prior to training camp and that Inglis was left with severe head injuries that required hospitalization and the inducing of a coma for two days to ease
swelling on the brain." . . . Inglis now is recuperating and may not play this season.
The Hurricanes released two players -- D Brock Sutherland, 16, and F Taylor Piller, 17 -- and now have 22 on their roster, including D Mitch Versteeg (broken wrist) and F Drew Todd (head injury). . . . D Ben Wright is back in Lethbridge from the Columbus Blue Jackets' camp. . . .
You can bet it’s smiles all around in Calgary today as the Hitmen got the news that they’re getting D Karl Alzner back from the NHL’s Washington Capitals. Alzner may have been Team Canada’s best player in that shinnyfest with the Russians, something that led some overenthusiastic observers to speculate that he just might stick with the Caps. . . . Alzner turns 19 on Sept. 24. . . .
The Everett Silvertips got word Monday that C Vitali Karamnov, 18, will be assigned to them from the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers. He was in the Oilers’ camp as a free agent. . . . Karamnov captained the Russian team that won the 2007 U-18 World Hockey Challenge. . . .
C Chris Bruton, 20, is the new captain of the Spokane Chiefs. Bruton, from Calgary, is into his fourth season with the Chiefs. Alternates are D Justin Falk and C Seth Compton, both 19, with LW Drayson Bowman and D Jared Spurgeon, two 18-year-olds, sharing an A. . . .
RW Partik Bhungal of the Chilliwack Bruins had five points 60 BCHL games with the Powell River Kings in 2005-06. Last season, as a WHL rookie, he had three points and 10 fights. This season, Bhungal, 19, tells Steve Ewen of the Vancouver Province, he is hoping to become a member of the 15-15 club — 15 goals and 15 fights. . . . The Bruins open Friday against the Blazers in Kamloops. . . .
RW Jordan Knackstedt, 19, is on his way back to the Moose Jaw Warriors after being in camp with the Boston Bruins. . . . Vancouver Giants captain Milan Lucic is still in Boston’s camp. In fact, he had his first pro fight Sunday in a rookie scrimmage with Brent Sutter’s New Jersey Devils.
