In Brandon, the Lethbridge Hurricanes scored the game’s first two goals and never trailed as they edged the Wheat Kings, 4-3, ending a five-game losing streak. . . . Dwight King, with his seventh goal of the season, at 5:16 of the first period and Mike Wuchterl, with his fourth, at 12:40, got the visitors off and running. . . . Carter Bancks’ third goal of the season, at 7:08 of the third period on a power play, stood up as the winner. . . . Andrew Clark pulled Brandon to within one at 18:55, on another PP. It was the 100th point of his career. . . . Lethbridge, which scored on three of its first six shots, was 2-for-7 on the PP; Brandon was 3-for-8. . . . Lethbridge G Mike Maniago stopped 27 shots, while Brandon’s Joe Caligiuri turned aside 15. . . . D Daryl Boyle had one of Brandon’s goals, and it was his 100th WHL point. . . . In Moose Jaw, the Warriors scored the game’s last three goals and beat the Medicine Hat Tigers, 5-2. . . . Jordan Knackstedt had two goals and two assists for Moose Jaw, his goals — at 9:04 and 15:18 of the third period — breaking a 2-2 tie. . . . The Warriors (6-3-2-0) have won six in a row, while the Tigers (8-3-1-0) had a five-game winning streak ended. . . . Moose Jaw lost D Ryan Stanton early in the second period. “He lost a whole bunch of teeth and got cut up in his mouth pretty bad,” Warriors head coach Dave Hunchak told the Moose Jaw Times-Herald. “He’s a tough kid. I suspect he’d want to play (Saturday), but we’ll evaluate him in the morning and see where he’s at.” . . . The Warriors are at home to Lethbridge on Saturday. . . . In Edmonton, the Calgary Hitmen, making their first visit to their northern rivals, struck for three first-period goals, the first two on the PP, and beat the Oil Kings 5-2 in front of 5,946 fans. . . . Ian Duval scored three times for Calgary, giving him his first WHL hat trick and six goals on the season. . . . Duval’s first two goals came via the PP, with his second shorthanded. . . . Calgary D Alex Plante, a first-round pick of the Edmonton Oilers in June, remains out with a wonky back. . . . Calgary has played 10 of its 14 games on the road and returns home to face the Kamloops Blazers on Sunday afternoon. . . .
In Regina, the Pats built up a 5-1 third-period lead and went on to beat the Prince George Cougars, 5-3. . . . The Cougars (4-8-0-0), who had won two in a row, are 3-2-0-0 on their East Division swing. The trip ends Saturday in Swift Current against the Broncos (8-2-0-1). . . . G Real Cyr stopped five of eight shots for the Cougars before being relieved by Tommy Tartaglione to start the second period. . . . Regina’s Jordan Eberle got his 11th goal of the season to give the Pats (9-4-0-0) a 5-1 lead at 5:23 of the third period. Prince George got goals from Colin Haas, his first, and Greg Gardner, his fifth, at 12:58 and 13:58 of the third period to make it 5-3. . . . Haas is a freshman from Plano, Texas. . . . Michael MacAngus had a goal and two helpers for Regina, while C Tim Kraus had two assists. . . . McAngus’s goal was Regina’s 20th PP score this season. . . . In Kelowna, Kyle Beach, playing in his hometown, had a goal and an assist to lead the Everett Silvertips to a 4-3 victory over the Rockets (4-5-1-0). . . . Jamie Benn scored twice for the Rockets, giving him five since he joined them from the BCHL’s Victoria Grizzlies. . . . Everett (5-5-0-0) lost D Jonathan Harty, its captain, to a leg injury in the second period. . . . Each team scored twice on the PP. . . . Everett has won four straight. . . .
In Spokane, G Kevin Armstrong stopped 20 shots and D Jared Cowen broke a 2-2 tie with a goal midway through the third period as the Chiefs beat the Saskatoon Blades, 3-2. Armstrong was acquired from the Blades in January 2006, while Cowen, a rookie who was the first pick in the 2006 bantam draft, is from Saskatoon. Cowen also had an assist. . . . Spokane now has won three straight from the Blades, all by 3-2 scores. . . . The Chiefs are 12-4 against the Blades since 1995-96. . . . Spokane is 6-2-1-1, while Saskatoon, which opened a U.S. Division swing, is 3-6-1-0. . . . The Chiefs are in Vancouver on Sunday for what should be a terrific game with the Giants. . . . In Seattle, the Memorial Cup-champion Vancouver Giants got an overtime goal from Mike Berube to beat the Thunderbirds, 3-2. Seattle, which was outshot 50-15 in losing 6-2 to the host Chilliwack Bruins on Wednesday, was outshot 41-25 by the Giants. . . . The winning goal came 1:50 into OT when a dump-in took a strange bounce to C James Wright, who fed Berube. . . . Vancouver (8-1-1-1) moved back atop the B.C. Division. Seattle is 4-1-2-1. . . . Vancouver D Jonathan Blum, with a goal, is on a 10-game point streak. . . . Seattle D Thomas Hickey, with an assist, ran his point streak to eight games. . . . Bud Holloway scored a shorthanded goal for Seattle, its fourth such goal this season. . . .
In Kennewick, Wash., Johnny Lazo scored in overtime as the Tri-City Americans beat the Chilliwack Bruins, 6-5. . . . LW Colton Yellow Horn had two goals and three assists for the Americans (9-3-0-0). . . . Winger Oscar Moller had three goals, for the second straight game, and two helpers for the Bruins (8-3-1-0). . . . Moller’s third goal, at 19:29 of the third period, forced the extra period. . . .
