SATURDAY’S HIGHLIGHTS:
In Regina, the Pats got a goal in the circus to beat the Lethbridge Hurricanes, 2-1. . . . Regina D Dallas Jackson, acquired earlier in the day from the Red Deer Rebels, scored his fifth goal of the season on a PP at 9:21 of the second period. . . . C Mitch Fadden, with his 21st, tied it on the PP at 3:41 of the third. . . . Regina C Jordan Eberle was the only one of six shooters to have success in the circus. . . . RW J.D. Watt, acquired by Regina from Red Deer earlier in the week, was tossed five minutes into the third period. He took an elbowing major and game misconduct and, with his track record, you know the league will be looking into this one. . . . D Ryan Bender, a Regina native acquired Friday night from Kamloops, was in the Pats’ lineup. D Victor Bartley, acquired in the same deal, is out with a groin injury and won’t travel to Regina until next week. In fact, Bender will play Sunday against the Broncos in Swift Current and then travel back to Kamloops to pick up his possessions. He and Bartley then will drive to Regina. Bartley, who suffered a groin injury in practice Wednesday, hopes to play Friday against the visiting Vancouver Giants. . . .
In Cranbrook, the Kootenay Ice scored five third-period goals and beat the Moose Jaw Warriors, 7-1. . . . C Dustin Sylvester, who turned 19 Saturday, had three goals for the Ice, giving him 21 on the season. He also had an assist. . . C Steve Da Silva added his 26th for the Ice. . . . The Warriors went 2-3-0-1 on a road swing that included stops in all five U.S. Division cities. . . . G Kris Lazaruk started for Kootenay but left in the second period with an apparent knee injury. Thomas Heemskerk came on in relief. . . .
In Prince Albert, the Raiders scored the game’s last six goals and beat the Medicine Hat Tigers, 6-2. . . . C Ryan McDonald had two goals, giving him 18, and two assists for the Raiders, while C Matt Robertson added a goal, his 17th, and three assists. . . .
In Seattle, G Kraymer Barnstable, making his sixth appearance of the season, stopped 34 shots to help the Vancouver Giants to a 2-1 victory over the Thunderbirds (17-14-5-1). . . . Vancouver (28-18-1-2) beat visiting Seattle 6-1 on Friday. . . . The Giants led 2-0 after two periods on goals by C James Wright and C Evander Kane, the latter having returned from the U-17 World Hockey Challenge. . . . Seattle head coach Rob Sumner was tossed at the end of the first period – cha-ching! – and is likely to be writing a $500 cheque early in the week. Referee Devin Klein, who was one of two referees on the ice in Swift Current when Broncos’ GM/head coach Dean Chynoweth tossed two water bottles, threw out Sumner. . . . Sumner was upset with a high-sticking penalty handed to D Benn Olson as the first period ended. "I thought it was a cheap, cheap call and I disagreed with it and let him know that," Sumner told Jim Riley of the Seattle Times. "I didn't think the stick was very high and I didn't think I did anything that was too overboard." . . . Seattle played without RW Bud Holloway, who was left with a concussion following a hit by Vancouver RW Garet Hunt on Friday. Hunt didn’t play, either, and is awaiting word from the WHL office on a suspension. . . .
In Portland, the Everett Silvertips took a 3-1 first-period lead and went on to beat the Winter Hawks, 7-2. . . . C Vitaly Karamnov had two goals and two assists for Everett, with C Kyle Beach adding a goal and two assists. . . .
In Chilliwack, C Mark Santorelli had four points to lead the Bruins to a 4-2 victory over the Prince George Cougars. . . . Santorelli had two goals and two assists as the Bruins erased a 2-0 first-period deficit. . . . Santorelli, who now has 65 points, reassumed the WHL scoring lead, two points ahead of Kelowna Rockets C Colin Long. . . .
In Kennewick, Wash., Spokane G Dustin Tokarski stopped 31 shots to lead the Chiefs to a 3-0 victory over the Tri-City Americans. . . . C David Rutherford’s fifth goal, at 10:52 of the first period, was the only goal the visitors would need. . . . Tri-City LW Colton Yellow Horn had his 22-game point streak snapped. That is the longest such streak in the WHL this season. . . . Tokarski has five shutouts this season and seven in his career. . . . This was the first time Tri-City has been blanked this season. . . . The Americans went into the weekend tied for first place in the overall standings, but now are four points behind the Chiefs, Vancouver Giants and Calgary Hitmen. . . . The Americans have added Czech LW Radek Meidl, 19, to their roster. He had 27 points, including 16 goals, with Seattle last season. He played for Czech Republic in the just-completed World Junior Championship. . . . Spokane C Chris Bruton and LW Dustin Donaghy may be looking at suspensions after incurring checking-from-behind majors and the accompanying game misconducts. . . . Each team was 0-for-3 on the PP. . . .
In Swift Current, Tim Kehler won his head-coaching debut as the Broncos dumped the Saskatoon Blades, 5-2. . . . Kehler filled in for GM/head coach Dean Chynoweth, who served the first of a two-game suspension for tossing two water bottles onto the ice during a game earlier in the week. . . . RW Dale Weise led the Broncos with two goals, giving him 20 on the season. . . . C Matt Tassone set up three goals for the home team. . . . C Chris Durand scored twice for Saskatoon. . . .
In Kelowna, C Cody Almond had two assists to lead the Rockets to a 6-1 victory over the Kamloops Blazers. . . . Almond has 12 points, including five goals, in six games since the Christmas break. . . . The Rockets (24-13-2-4) have won four in a row. . . . Kelowna got two goals from C Colin Long, who now has 22. . . . Kamloops (19-20-1-1) plays in Vancouver on Sunday night before visiting the Spokane Chiefs on Wednesday and the Tri-City Americans on Friday. . . . Kamloops G Justin Leclerc stopped Kelowna F Lucas Bloodoff on a second-period penalty shot. . . . The Blazers surrendered 34 shots, the sixth straight game in which the opposition has had at least 30 shots on goal. . . . Kamloops RW Tyler Shattock sprained an ankle in the first period and watched the rest of the game while on crutches. . . .
