Friday's stuff . . .

The Chilliwack Bruins have released D Chris Van Duynhoven, 19, who was in his fourth WHL season. He had one goal in six games this season. A native of Burnaby, he began his career with the Prince George Cougars and was dealt to the Bruins in the middle of last season. The 6-foot-5, 236-pounder was skating on a forward line in a game in Prince George last weekend.

The return of LW Greg Scott to the Seattle Thunderbirds meant the club had four 20-year-olds, so something had to give. Turns out it was C Jared Jagow. He has left the team and is awaiting word on a possible trade. Scott, who has signed with the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs, had been in camp with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies. Seattle's other 20-year-olds are F Chris Cloud and F Devon Leblanc.

The Brandon Wheat Kings got down to two goaltenders on Friday by deciding to go with sophomore Andrew Hayes, 18, and James Priestner, 17, who was acquired from the Kamloops Blazers last week. . . . The Wheat Kings are trying to trade Joe Caligiuri, 19. . . . Caligiuri was in his third WHL season. He is 1-1-0-0 with a 4.01 GAA this season.

FRIDAY’S HIGHLIGHTS:
In Vancouver, C Evander Kane scored three goals and set up two others as the Giants whipped the Kelowna Rockets, 7-1. . . . The Giants (7-0-0-1) have won six in a row. In their last three games, they have outscored the opposition, 24-4. . . . Kane now leads the WHL in goals (9) and points (18). . . . Vancouver was 4-for-9 on the PP and now is 16-for-47 (34 per cent) on the season. . . . F Casey Pierro-Zabotel set up four goals. . . . Kelowna (4-5-0-0) has lost three of its last four games. . . . F Mike Piluso, who plays on a line with Kane and Pierro-Zabotel, had two goals and two assists as that line had a 13-point evening. . . . The game featured 142 penalty minutes, 74 to Vancouver.

In Brandon, the Wheat Kings scored the game’s last five goals as they beat the Tri-City Americans, 5-1. . . . Brandon (4-4-0-0) had lost two straight and four of five. . . . Tri-City (5-3-0-0) was 0-for-4 on the PP; Brandon hasn’t given up a PP goal in 21 opportunities at home. . . . The Americans, who outshot Brandon 16-4 in the first period, had won three of their last four games. . . . The Wheat Kings got goals from five different players with F Sanfred King, a healthy scratch in the previous two games, and D Matt McCue scoring their first goals of the season. . . . Brandon F Jay Fehr (shoulder) was back after a two-week absence. . . . Brandon G Andrew Hayes stopped 34 shots. . . . An interesting note out of this game from Rob Henderson of the Brandon Sun: The game featured a whopping 26 Manitobans — 14 for Brandon and 12 Winnipeggers dressed for Tri-City.

In Chilliwack, the Bruins overcame a 3-1 deficit to beat the Prince Albert Raiders, 5-4. . . . The Bruins (3-2-1-1) had lost four of their last five. . . . .The Raiders (4-5-0-0) are on a six-game road swing that has started with two one-goal losses. . . . The Raiders led this one 3-1 at 14:16 of the second period, only to give up the game’s next four goals. . . . The Bruins were 3-for-10 on the PP; the Raiders were 1-for-4. . . . Prince Albert G Steven Stanford faced 39 shots, the fifth time in six starts he has seen at least 35 shots.

In Edmonton, LW Curtis Hamilton scored twice, the second one into an empty net, as the Saskatoon Blades dumped the Oil Kings, 5-2. . . . The Blades (5-4-0-0) have won four in a row while Edmonton (4-5-1-0) has lost three straight. . . . Hamilton also drew an assist and was plus-3.

In Everett, LW Kyle Beach scored 54 seconds into his first game back to spark the Silvertips to a 5-2 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds. . . . Beach, who had been in camp with the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks, finished with two goals as the Silvertips, who had lost their last two games, improved to 3-3-1-0. . . . Seattle fell to 1-6-0-0. . . . Daniel Bartek, playing on a line with Beach and Kellan Tochkin, had two goals and two assists. Tochkin had two assists. . . . D Thomas Hickey and LW Greg Scott, both of whom had been at pro camps, were in Seattle’s lineup. Hickey had two assists. . . . Everett RW Matt Ius returned after missing three games with a concussion, but D Graham Potuer (concussion) sat out.

In Kamloops, LW Kenton Dulle had two goals, including one on a penalty shot, as the Blazers dumped the Prince George Cougars, 4-1. . . . The Blazers (4-4-0-1) had lost four of their last five. . . . The Cougars (6-2-0-0) had won four straight.

In Lethbridge, F Brandon Kozun scored twice and added an assist as the Calgary Hitmen beat the Hurricanes, 3-1. . . . The Hitmen (7-2-0-0) have won five straight. . . . The Hurricanes (5-3-0-0) have been 4-0 at home. . . . Lethbridge was 1-for-6 on the PP. Calgary’s penalty-killers have given up only two goals on 43 opportunities in nine games. . . . Kozun has eight goals this season, tied for second in the WHL. . . . Lethbridge had F Cam Braes and F Carter Bancks back on the ice. Braes (concussion) hadn’t played since Sept. 26. Bancks had been rehabbing a broken foot suffered in the Atlanta Thrashers’ camp. . . . The Calgary line of Kozun (13), Brent Sonne (15) and Kyle Bortis (11) has combined for 39 points.

In Moose Jaw, the Ice snapped a five-game losing streak with a 4-3 shootout victory over the Warriors. . . . The Ice (3-5-0-3) got the only two goals of the shootout — from Dustin Sylvester and Czech freshman Dominik Pacovsky. . . . The Warriors (4-4-0-1) led 2-0 after one period, the second goal a shorthanded effort by Jason Bast, who was named team captain earlier in the day. . . . The Ice opened the third period with three goals in 5:25, two of them from F Michael Stickland, who hadn’t scored since opening night when he lit the lamp four times. . . . Bast forced OT with his second goal of the night and fifth of the season at 9:16. . . . The Ice, which won a shootout for the first time in four attempts, outshot its hosts, 43-28.

In Portland, C Tyler Johnson had a goal and two assists as the Spokane Chiefs beat the Winter Hawks, 6-2. . . . The Chiefs (5-1-0-2) have only one regulation loss. . . . The Winter Hawks (1-5-0-0) have scored five goals in six games.
