Blazers box

THE SCORES
Sunday
Chilliwack 5, Kamloops 2
Saturday
Kelowna 5, Kamloops 0

WHAT HAPPENED
The Bruins got out to 2-0 and 4-1 leads and the Blazers, thanks primarily to
erratic shooting, especially on the power play, couldn’t catch up. . . . On
Saturday, the Rockets simply dominated the Blazers, who managed but four
shots in each of the last two periods.

THE STANDINGS
The Blazers (10-12-0-3) are sixth in the Western Conference, two points
behind the Everett Silvertips (11-8-3-0) and two ahead of the Seattle
Thunderbirds (9-11-1-2) and the Prince George Cougars (10-13-0-1). The
Bruins (8-11-2-2) are ninth.

THE GOALTENDER
Chilliwack’s Lucas Gore, who is from Kamloops, is out for another two or
three weeks with a shoulder injury. With him gone, the Bruins have brought
in Luke Siemens, 16, of South Delta. He had been with the junior B
Summerland Sting.

THE INJURY
Kamloops RW Kenton Dulle is out with an arm injury after getting hurt during
a practice session last week. He is expected to be sidelined for two weeks.
Ironically, Dulle was injured when he got tangled up with D Kurt Torbohm,
who went down with a concussion late in Saturday’s first period.

THE NEW GUY
LW Brett Lyon, acquired last week from the Vancouver Giants, made his WHL
debut Saturday on a line with C Dalibor Bortnak and RW Jimmy Bubnick. Lyon,
17, had been with the BCHL’s Westside Warriors.

THE LETTER
Prior to Saturday’s game, Kamloops head coach Barry Smith pinned an ‘A’ on
LW Shayne Wiebe’s jersey. He joins C C.J. Stretch and RW Tyler Shattock as
alternate captains. C Scott Wasden, who injured his right shoulder Sunday,
is the captain.

THE CROWD
The announced attendance Saturday was 4,337. That is the second-smallest
crowd ever to watch the Rockets play here, larger only than the 4,195 who
saw the Rockets win 5-4 in OT on Oct. 3, 2006.

THE TRADE
D Darryl Sydor, one of the Blazers’ owners, has been traded by the
Pittsburgh Penguins to the Dallas Stars for D Philippe Boucher. This will be
Sydor’s third stint with the Stars. Sydor, 36, is making US$2.5 million this
season but had played in only eight games.

THE DAILY NEWS THREE STARS
Sunday
1. RW Jadon Potter, Chilliwack. The leader.

2. G Mark Friesen, Chilliwack. Stood in there.

3. D Brett Ward, Chilliwack. Solid on the back end.

Saturday
1. C Cody Almond, Kelowna. Three goals.

2. RW Dylan Hood, Kelowna. Lots of energy.

3. LW Jamie Benn, Kelowna. His 20th goal and an assist.

NEXT UP
Prince George is at The ATM on Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m. The game also
will be televised by Shaw.
