Chilliwack, Moose Jaw . . .

For those who inquired, I am told that the Chilliwack Bruins and Vancouver Giants both hold territorial rights to Abbotsford. Therefore, both the Bruins and Giants would have to waive those rights in order for a WHL franchise to end up playing out of the 7,000-seat facility that is being built in Abbotsford. . . . The Bruins, by the way, have several hundred season-ticket holders from Abbotsford, so approval isn’t likely to happen should someone want to put a WHL franchise there. . . . The most likely scenario would appear to have the Abbotsford arena ending up as the home to an ECHL franchise, one that might strike up a rivalry with the Victoria Salmon Kings. . . . Also, for those who were wondering, the Bruins didn’t receive any compensation from the BCHL’s Victoria Grizzlies after they signed F Evan Pighin, who had been with the Bruins. No cheque! No green fees at Bear Mountain! No tickets to the Royal Bank Cup! Nada!

The situation in Moose Jaw involving a possible new multiplex have escalated to the point of ludicrousness. The lastest story, from the Moose Jaw Times-Herald, is right here.
