Thursday . . .

HALL OF FAME WEEKEND: This is a big weekend for the Chynoweth family – Mom Linda and sons Dean and Jeff, and their families -- as their late husband, father and grandfather, Ed, is to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto on Monday.
Ed, the long-time head of the CHL and WHL and the governor of the Kootenay Ice, died on April 22.
The Chynoweth families, with the exception of Dean, leave for Toronto today (Friday).
Dean, the general manager and head coach of the Swift Current Broncos, will run his team’s bench on Friday in Brandon and then fly out of Winnipeg and head for Toronto where he will be on the ice at the Air Canada Centre on Saturday night, taking part in Hall of Fame ceremonies before the Toronto Maple Leafs play the visiting Montreal Canadiens.
Dean also is scheduled to play for the All-Star Legends on Sunday afternoon as they take on the Canadiens Legends in the Legends Classic game at the ACC. Dean was a hard-nosed defenceman with the Medicine Hat Tigers whose NHL career was halted by injury and you have to wonder how many times he’ll go nose-to-nose with, say, former teammate Kirk Muller.
You should know that Dean has been preparing for this game by checking in with a rec league in Swift Current a couple of times a week when he can. And he also has been to a local gym a few times, so he’s ready.
After the game, there will be a reception, played host to by the Canadian Hockey League and Hockey Canada, with family and friends in attendance. That evening, the Chynoweths will be among a party of about 60 who will gather for dinner.
On Monday, there is a rehearsal, which Jeff, the general manager of the Kootenay Ice, will attend as he will speak on behalf of the family at that night’s induction dinner. There also is time set aside for family photos.
You can bet that this will be a weekend full of lots of fun, memories and emotion for the entire Chynoweth family.
Also being inducted are former players Glenn Anderson and Igor Larionov, along with former linesman Ray Scapinello.

MY MAN MORLEY: The Prince Albert Raiders have announced that the radio play-by-play booth in their home rink, the Art Hauser Centre, is to be renamed the Morley Jaeger Broadcast Booth in honour of their original play-by-play voice on 900 CKBI. All told, Jaeger handled 1,274 games and that included four Centennial Cup titles and a Memorial Cup. It will happen Nov. 15 as part of the Raiders Wall of Honour inductions as the Regina Pats pay a visit. Longtime general manager and coach Terry Simpson will be honoured, as will former players Theran Welsh and Emanuel Viveiros. It is only fitting that Simpson and Jaeger are to be honoured on the same evening because they are arguably the two people who were most easily identifiable with the Raider when they ruled junior A hockey in all of Canada and during their Memorial Cup run. . . . Remember, Prince Albert, it all happens on Nov. 15, and, until then, you know the score.

JUST NOTES: The Swift Current Broncos have acquired RW Matt Ius, 18, from the Everett Silvertips for a 2009 fifth-round bantam draft pick. Ius, who is from Pitt Meadows, B.C., left the Silvertips late last month, citing unhappiness with his role. He had three goals in 10 games with Everett and has 15 points and 34 penalty minutes in 87 WHL games. Everett had taken Ius with the 30th pick of the 2005 bantam draft. He isn’t expected to play Friday in Brandon against the Wheat Kings, but should be in the Broncos’ lineup Sunday when they play the Pats in Regina. The Silvertips, who are on their East Division tour, visit Swift Current on Nov. 14. . . . The Broncos have two forwards – Jordan Peddle and Jan Dalecky – out with concussions, while F Matt Tassone (shoulder) also is out. Two other forwards – Cody Eakin (concussion) and Keegan Dansereau (ankle) – are just back in the lineup. . . . The Vancouver Giants, the only WHL team not to have lost in regulation time, are in Prince George for a Friday-Saturday doubleheader against the Cougars. Over the last five seasons, the Giants are 26-12-0-1 against the Cougars, but only 9-8-0-1 in Prince George. . . . Regina Pats C Mitch Czibere, 19, has been out for six weeks with a knee injury but might return Friday against the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers. Regina got Czibere from Vancouver on Sept. 11 but he was hurt in the Pats’ fourth game. . . . The Lethbridge Hurricanes have signed D Max Ross, 18, an undrafted listed player who was in training camp and ended up with the AJHL’s Olds Grizzlys. The Hurricanes dealt two defencemen – Cam Stevens and Brock Sutherland – to the Tri-City Americans on Wednesday, getting one (Eric Mestery) in return. So Ross, a stay-at-home type, will help fill a spot on the back end. . . . The Swift Current Broncos, with a few bumps and bruises up front, have signed RW Michael Hay, 16, the 78th pick in the 2007 bantam draft. He has been playing with the midget AAA Winnipeg Thrashers and was in the lineup Wednesday when the Broncos beat the visiting Prince Albert Raiders, 5-2. . . . D Jesse Dudas, 20, who has yet to play for the Swift Current Broncos this season because of a knee injury, has been skating for a week or so in Edmonton. He could rejoin the Broncos in 10 days to two weeks, something that would leave the Broncos with four 20-year-olds, the others being RW Keegan Dansereau, D Spencer McAvoy and G Travis Yonkman. Once Dudas returns, the Broncos will have 14 days to get back down to three 20-year-olds. . . . The Tri-City Americans are at home to the Kamloops Blazers on Friday night. Tri-City G Chet Pickard has 82 victories, one shy of Carey Price’s franchise record. The Americans are 7-1 at home. . . . C Mitch Fadden, acquired Wednesday by the Americans from the Lethbridge Hurricanes, will be the first Tri-City player to wear No. 13.
