JUST NOTES: LW Ryan Howse (leg) is expected back in the Chilliwack Bruins’ lineup Tuesday when they play host to the Portland Winter Hawks. He was injured Saturday in a 5-4 OT loss to the visiting Prince George Cougars. Howse sat out Sunday’s 5-2 victory over the Blazers in Kamloops on Sunday. He went for X-rays on Monday and they were negative. The leg is bruised and he is expected to play Tuesday. . . . The Bruins, however, are likely to be without RW Blair Wentworth (suspected concussion). He was hurt during a scrap with Prince George’s Coby Hobbs on Friday. If Wentworth is diagnosed with a concussion, it will be his second of the season. . . . The Cougars have returned D Scott Brkich, 18, to the AJHL’s Drayton Valley Thunder. He had one assist in four games. . . . The WHL has nominated Martin Jones of the Calgary Hitmen as the ADT CHL goaltender of the week. He was 3-0-0-0 last week, with a 1.00 GAA and a .955 save percentage. . . . The Kelowna Rockets are at home to the Tri-City Americans on Wednesday and G Kris Lazaruk can hardly wait. The last time the teams met, on Nov. 4 in Kennewick, Wash., Lazaruk suffered a shoulder injury. He returned to action Saturday, blanking the Blazers 5-0 in Kamloops, and will start for the Rockets on Wednesday. Lazaruk is hoping the shutout is a sign of better things to come – he has a 3.57 GAA and a .858 save percentage. “My time here . . . maybe I was over-analyzing things too much,” Lazaruk tells Doyle Potentau of the Kelowna Daily Courier. “I had to rethink things . . . go out there and simplify my game; just go out and stop the puck, really. I guess (rethinking) comes with age and maturity. You need good practice habits because good practice habits leads into games. In Kamloops, I couldn’t have asked for a better outing, and to get the shutout was great.”

The fires that have ravaged areas near Los Angeles really hit home for one WHL player. The Los Angeles Times story is right here.

These are interesting – really interesting – times in Kingston, what with Doug Gilmour coming in to coach the OHL’s Frontenacs. This is a franchise that has struggled for a while now and, at least one some fronts, ownership and the general manager aren’t overly popular. One take on what is going on is right here.

And if you’re interested in a radio roundtable on the Frontenacs, give this a listen. It sounds like the situation in Kingston, where Frontenacs management apparently seems to think winning will cure all that ails the franchise, is rather intriguing.
Former Winterhawk Brenden Morrow is one of 46 players invited to take part
