Steve Ewen of the Vancouver Province is reporting that Vancouver C Evander Kane may not play Wednesday night against the visiting Chilliwack Bruins. Kane, who has at least one point in each of the Giants’ first 21 games, didn’t skate Tuesday after arriving at the arena in Ladner on crutches. Kane suffered an ankle injury in Friday’s 5-3 victory ver the visiting Kelowna Rockets but played in Sunday’s 5-2 home-ice victory over the Portland Winter Hawks. He will be re-evaluated Wednesday morning but head coach Don Hay has told Ewen that Kane is “doubtful.”

JUST NOTES: A couple of changes with the Prince George Cougars on Tuesday. . . . David Michaud, who was in public relations and sales, has left the Cougars to go into radio sales. Michaud may have set a record last season when he worked on radio broadcasts for three WHL teams — the Kelowna Rockets, Kamloops Blazers and Portland Winter Hawks. . . . The Cougars have assigned F Marcus Watson, 19, to the BCHL and he is expected to join the Langley Chiefs. He missed the early part of the season as he recovered from offseason leg surgery. He got into six games and was pointless. . . . The WHL is a long way from scheduling its 2009-10 season but we do know that the Swift Current Broncos can plan for a long road trip late in March. That’s because the Credit Union i-plex will be home to the Ford World women’s curling championship, March 20-28. That just might be about the time the WHL will be into the first round of its playoffs. Of course, the Vancouver Giants also will be looking at a lengthy road trip, what with the 2010 Olympic Winter Games scheduled for Vancouver/Whistler in February. . . . Edmonton Oil Kings head coach Steve Pleau has donated $1,000 to the WHL office’s Christmas party, the result of his incurring his second game misconduct of the season. This one came Sunday in Lethbridge. Pleau now had made donations totaling $1,500 this season. . . . Brandon F Cale Jefferies, who sat out 12 games with a thumb injury, was back Tuesday night for a 4-1 victory over the visiting Spokane Chiefs.

The Medicine Hat News reported on its website Tuesday afternoon that F Cole Penner, the fourth pick in the 2006 bantam draft, would make his WHL debut later that night in Medicine Hat against the Tigers. The enigmatic Penner, who twice has been cut by the Raiders in training camp, also is expected to play for the Raiders on Wednesday against the Hurricanes in Lethbridge. He has four goals and 107 penalty minutes in 16 games with the AJHL’s Brooks Bandits. . . . Penner scored in his first game with the Raiders but it wasn’t enough as the Raiders fell 2-1 to the Tigers.

G Jeff Bosch, in his third start since being acquired from the Regina Pats, stopped 27 shots Tuesday to lead the Moose Jaw Warriors to a 3-0 victory over the visiting Seattle Thunderbirds. It was Bosch’s first shutout of the season and the second of his career. It was the first shutout posted by a Warriors goaltender this season. Seattle has been blanked twice. . . . G Mark Friesen stopped 28 shots as the Chilliwack Bruins blanked the visiting Portland Winter Hawks, 2-0. It was Friesen’s first WHL shutout. It also was the first blank job posted by the Bruins this season. Portland has been shut out six times. . . . According to Moose Jaw stats people, the Warriors blocked 21 shots on Bosch’s behalf.
