Portland deals

Contrary to the rumour mongers, the Portland Winter Hawks traded neither G Kurtis Mucha nor D Travis Ehrhardt.
Instead, the Winter Hawks dealt an eighth-round 2010 draft pick to the Prince Albert Raiders for the rights to LW Max Brandl, 20, who has been playing in Germany.
Brandl had 33 points and 60 penalty minutes in 65 games with Prince Albert last season.
As well, the Winter Hawks have dealt the rights to D Bo Montgomery, 18, to the Medicine Hat Tigers for a draft pick or picks. That deal has yet to be announced.
Montgomery left the Winter Hawks over the summer and said he hoped to play for the U of Regina Cougars. He wasn't able to get his release, however, and never did play for the Cougars. He and his family went so far as to consult with lawyers in an attempt to get that result but apparently chose not to pursue it.
Montgomery, 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, was taken 35th overall by the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the 2005 bantam draft.
