In Vancouver, Jon Blum picked up two assists to help the Giants snap a two-game losing streak with a 5-2 victory over the Kamloops Blazers. . . . Vancouver head coach Don Hay moved Blum, one of the WHL’s premier defencemen, onto a line with C Casey Pierro-Zabotel and LW Andrej Kudrna. . . . The two assists give Blum 201 career points. . . . The Blazers had won four in a row. . . . Vancouver F Evander Kane scored his 45th goal, into an empty net. . . . Vancouver was without F Lance Bouma (hand), F Mike Piluso (shoulder) and F Todd Kennedy (knee). Kennedy was injured Saturday in Kelowna and will be out up to four weeks.

In Cranbrook, the Kootenay Ice dumped the Medicine Hat Tigers, 5-2. . . . It was the Ice’s seventh straight victory over the Tigers, going back to last season’s playoffs. . . . The Tigers lost three games over the weekend. . . . Kootenay captain Andrew Bailey had two third-period goals. . . . Ice F Steele Boomer, in his third game back from a concussion, set up two goals.

In Moose Jaw, the Regina Pats scored five PP goals and beat the Warriors, 7-2. . . . Regina went 7-1-0-0 against Moose Jaw this season. . . . Since Jan. 1, Regina has won eight of 28 games, with five of those victories coming over the Warriors. . . . C Jordan Weal had two PP goals for Regina.

In Portland, G Kurtis Mucha stopped 19 shots to lead the Winter Hawks to a 2-0 victory over the Everett Silvertips. . . . The shutout was Mucha’s second of the season — both against Everett — and the seventh of his career. . . . It was the 11th time Everett has been blanked this season, tying it with the Chilliwack Bruins for the WHL lead. . . . C Chris Francis’s 19th goal, at 13:12 of the first period, stood up as the winner. . . . The victory lifted the Winter Hawks one point ahead of the Moose Jaw Warriors and Chilliwack in the race to avoid the WHL basement.

In Edmonton, Oil Kings captain Brenden Dowd broke a 1-1 tie at 12:52 of the third period for a 2-1 victory over the Lethbridge Hurricanes. . . . The victory lifted the Oil Kings into sole possession of eighth place in the Eastern Conference, two points ahead of the Prince Albert Raiders.
