More from Tuesday . . .

If you’re thinking Marc Habscheid will be the next head coach of the Regina Pats, uhh, don’t hold your breath. "We have other people that we'll be looking at," Pats GM Brent Parker told Greg Harder of the Regina Leader-Post after firing head coach Dale Derkatch on Tuesday. "Marc is a good coach. But I'll use his words, 'it wasn't the right fit.' " . . . Parker interviewed Habscheid a year ago when searching for a replacement for Curtis Hunt, who left to joing the NHL’s Ottawa Senators as an assistant coach. In fact, Parker narrowed it down to Derkatch or Habscheid. . . . Harder, along with Ian Hamilton and Rob Vanstone, have the complete Pats’ story right here.

The guys at Coming Down the Pipe – there’s a link over there on the left – list their top five candidates for the Pats’ head-coaching job. . . . And don’t count out the guy who is No. 5 on their list.

The Dallas Morning News knows that the WHL is alive and drafting. Check out the story right here.

F Mikael Backlund of the Kelowna Rockets is the CHL’s Boston Pizza player of the week. He had five goals and an assist in three victories last week. . . . Kelowna LW Jamie Benn didn't skate Tuesday and remains listed as day-to-day. With a 3-0 lead over the Calgary Hitmen in the WHL's championship final, you have to think Benn won't play in Game 4 on Wednesday night and that he also would sit out Game 5 in Calgary, if the series goes that far. He has a suspected concussion after a check by Calgary D Keith Seabrook in Game 2 on Saturday. . . . Is there a better story in these NHL playoffs than the play of Chicago Blackhawks F Dustin Byfuglien. He was somewhere north of 270 pounds during at least part of his stint with the Prince George Cougars. And watching him then who saw a $3 million-a-year NHLer? . . . By the way, Dale Smedsmo is dating Byfuglien's mother, Cheryl. That would be the same Dale Smedsmo who had something of a career in the WHA. . . . Does anyone feel worse today than former WHL referee Brad Watson? Were it not for his quick whistle -- one that cost Detroit the equalizing goal late in the third period -- the Red Wings and Anaheim Ducks might still be playing. . . . Gotta think Gary Bettman's efforts to keep Jim Balsillie out of the NHL will be worth watching for the next while. This one is going to be really, really interesting. . . . Why couldn't Bill Gallacher, the owner of the Portland Winter Hawks, buy the bankrupt Phoenix Coyotes and move the franchise to the Rose City? Hey, just asking.
