Tuesday . . . early

The Vancouver Giants have dealt D Simon Witt, 17, to the Red Deer Rebels for a 2011 third-round bantam draft pick. . . . The 6-foot-3, 183-pound Witt, from Victoria, got into seven games with the Giants last season and played in five exhibition games this season. He was a fifth-round pick in the 2007 bantam draft. . . . He had 11 points in 27 games with the junior B Grandview Steelers of the Pacific Internationa league last season. . . . The deal gets the Giants’ roster down to nine defencemen, including Kevin Connauton and Nolan Toigo, both of whom are with the Vancouver Canucks.

F Scott Glennie of the Brandon Wheat Kings, who is in camp with Dallas, hasn’t been able to take part in the Stars’ main camp because of a pulled groin. He was injured while with the Stars’ rookie team in Traverse City, Mich.
---
F Matt Lowry, who played out his WHL eligibility with the Brandon Wheat Kings last season, has been assigned by the NHL’s Ottawa Senators to the AHL’s Binghamton Senators. That means Lowry will be playing for former Tri-City Americans head coach Don Nachbaur, who now is Binghamton’s head coach.
---
F Milan Lucic (Vancouver, 2004-07) is on his way to becoming a legend in Boston. How do I know? Because it says so right here.
---
The Detroit Red Wings have returned some players to their WHL teams – F Mitchell Callahan (Kelowna), F Landon Ferraro (Red Deer), F Brent Raedeke (Edmonton) and F Austin Fyten (Lethbridge).
---
Word is that the Prince George Cougars have traded D Jeff Regier, 18, to an undisclosed team. But he has refused to report and now is at home in Abbotsford, B.C.
---
The city of Prince George has declared Friday to be Brett Connolly Day. . . . The proclamation was made Monday by Mayor Dan Rogers: “Whereas this accomplishment is rarely achieved and provides excellent role modeling for young athletes, and challenges all of us to be better at whatever we have a passion for, therefore, I Dan Rogers, Mayor of Prince George, do hereby proclaim September 18th, 2009 as Brett Connolly Day in the City of Prince George.” . . . . The Cougars open the regular season at home to the Spokane Chiefs that night. . . . Connolly, who is from Prince George, is being saluted for having been named the CHL’s rookie of the year for 2008-09. . . . And how will Prince George honour him should he win a WHL scoring title? Or be named the NHL's rookie of the year? . . . Ladies and gentlement, meet the new Mayor of Prince George, Brett Connolly.
---
F Jimmy Bubnick (Kamloops) and F Levko Koper (Spokane) each had two assists Monday as the Atlanta Thrashers beat the visiting Nashville Predators 6-3 in a rookie game. . . . The teams play again Tuesday afternoon after which you can bet some players will be heading back to their major junior teams.
---
The Edmonton Oil Kings have released veteran D Garrett Thiessen, 20. He is expected to head for his hometown and play for the BCHL’s Prince George Spruce Kings. . . . The Oil Kings’ roster is left with F Brett Breitkreuz, G Torrie Jung and D Drew Nichol as the 20-year-olds. . . . They also have reassigned G Laurent Brossoit, 16, who was the 26th pick in the 2008 bantam draft. That leaves Cam Lanigan, 17, as the backup to Jung. Lanigan was the 111th selection in the 2007 draft.
