THE MacBETH REPORT: F Paul Deniset (Kamloops, Swift Current, Vancouver, Prince Albert, 1998-2002) signed a one-year contract with Aalborg (Denmark AL-Bank Liga). He had 40 goals and 48 assists in 54 games with Belfast (UK Elite) last season and had been released by Rødovre (Denmark AL-Bank Liga) two weeks ago for financial reasons. Aalborg general manager Karsten Arvidsen said: "Deniset is a clear reinforcement of our team." F Robin Kovar (Vancouver, Regina, 2001-04) signed a one-year contract with Eindhoven (Netherlands). He had 15 goals and 16 assists in 51 games with Liptovsky Mikulas (Slovakia Extraliga) last season.

Big news out of Portland. Memorial Coliseum, which not too long ago was thought to have had the lifespan of a mosquito that was about to land on your arm, has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Obviously, blowing up the place won’t be all that simple now. There is more right here.

The Prince George Cougars have traded D Tyler Kizuik, 17, to the Saskatoon Blades for a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2011 bantam draft. Kizuik, who is from Indian Head, Sask., was the 54th pick in the 2007 draft. He played last season for the midget AAA Regina Pat Canadians. . . . D Alexander Urbom, 19, has signed a three-year contract with the NHL’s New Jersey Devils. Urbom was a third-round pick in the NHL’s 2009 draft. He still is expected to play this season with the Brandon Wheat Kings, although he remains in the Devils’ camp. “It’s not a real surprise that he signed and I think that was a possibility when he went there, based on the fact that he’s a good player,” Wheat Kings GM/head coach Kelly McCrimmon told the Brandon Sun. “But I’m no wiser if that (signing) has any impact on his status with us.”

The Saskatoon Blades have settled on their goaltenders, with Chris Sharkey, 17, having earned the roster spot backing up starter Adam Morrison, 18. Matthew Krahn, 18, who also was in the mix, has been assigned to the MJHL’s Portage Terriers. Sharkey, who played midget AAA in Edmonton last season, was a 12th-round pick in the 2007 bantam draft. . . . The Blades also designated D Zane Morin, 17, for assignment. He is from Meadow Lake, Sask., and is expected to play junior A.

The Red Deer Rebels have dealt F Brett Miller, 18, to the Everett Silvertips for an undisclosed conditional draft pick. Presumably, it’s a bantam draft pick, as opposed to an import draft pick, but neither the Red Deer nor the Everett press releases shed any light on this matter. Hey, maybe it’s for a first-round pick in a fantasy draft. . . . Miller spent most of last season with the SJHL’s Battlefords North Stars, although he did get into nine games with the Rebels. The Regina Pats selected Miller with the 14th overall pick in the 2006 bantam draft. . . . Miller has two points in 37 career WHL games. . . . The Rebels also assigned D Brad Deagle to the AJHL’s Brooks Bandits. . . . Those moves got the Rebels’ roster down to 25 players.

The Medicine Hat Tigers have released G Kyle Birch, 19, who has WHL experience with the Tri-City Americans and Moose Jaw Warriors. That would seem to indicate the Tigers will go with Ryan Holfeld, 20, and Tyler Bunz, 17, as their two goaltenders. . . . The other 20-year-olds on the roster are F Bretton Cameron, F Colton Grant and D Mark Isherwood. . . . The Tigers got down to 26 players on Tuesday by releasing F Colin Mospanchuk, 16, and Trent Ouellette, 16. Mospanchuk was the 93rd selection in the 2008 bantam draft. . . . As well, F Tristan King, who missed a lot of last season with injuries, came back from a free-agent tryout with the Dallas Stars with a contract in his hip pocket. Well, not quite. King is waiting for the contract to arrive so that he can sign it and return it. King, 18, had 36 points in 47 games last season.

He wasn’t drafted, however, and was with Columbus on a tryout basis. . . . In Vancouver, he will be backed up by Brendan Jensen, the 130th selection in the 2008 bantam draft.

G Steven Stanford, 19, won’t be in uniform Friday when the Prince Albert Raiders open their regular season. He took a shot to the neck in an exhibition game last weekend and is awaiting medical clearance to return to practice. Stanford, who was hit Sept. 11 and spent two nights in hospital, is scheduled to see a doctor on Monday in Saskatoon. . . . In the meantime, the Raiders will go with Garrett Zemlak, 20, and freshman Jacob Edwards, 17, the 117th pick in the 2007 bantam draft.
