Troy Mick loves his hair, but he can feel it slipping away.
And he doesn’t mind. Not one bit.
Mick, a former WHL player and coach, now is head coach of the Revelstoke Grizzlies of the junior B Kootenay International junior league.
The Grizzlies are working to raise money to help cover the medical expenses of Bruin Stairs, a 14-year-old hockey player from Vernon, who has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
Vernon is a community near and dear to Mick’s heart as he had a great deal of success there as GM and head coach of the BCHL’s Vipers.
The Grizzlies conclude their regular season on Sunday with a home game against the Kamloops Storm and will play an exhibition game Tuesday night against the visiting Northern Lights, a touring junior A team from Minnesota.
The Grizzlies will use both games as fund-raisers.
If the team comes up with $500, all the players will shave their heads to show support for Bruin. Should the team come up with a grand, Mick has agreed to have his head shaved following the Tuesday game.
“I’m getting nervous,” Mick said Saturday afternoon, “because they have already raised more than $400.
“Yikes! I love my hair!”
