Game 2 . . . third period

THIRD PERIOD:
Three minutes left in the intermission and the Hitmen are outside their dressing room, ready to go. . . . They’re down 3-0 and being outshot 28-14.
They can’t feel good about that. But Calgary got a goal late in the second period. . . . The 50/50 pool is at $23,590 as the period begins. . . . Calgary F Tyler Fiddler, who has his team’s goal, almost stuffs one on a playgrounder. . . . Then Moncton comes down 2-on-1 and G Martin Jones stops Kelsey Teisser. . . . Calgary takes the puck back up the ice and F Joel Broda, the trailer, beats Nicola Riopel. . . . How many times do you see that, eh? A team misses at one end, the other teams misses at the other end and then the other team goes down and scores. . . . It’s 3-2 and now we have a game. . . . With Kozun hurting, Calgary needs Broda to go to the bank a time or two. . . . There’s a trip and Calgary D Michael Stone is going off for dumping F Daniel Pettersson. . . . Moncton G Randy Cameron rips a one-timer from the left side that goes off the top of Jones’ mask and out of play. . . . Calgary survives the PP. . . . Shots now are 30-20. . . . Moncton supporters have to be feeling a bit queasy. . . . Calgary D Matt Mackenzie puts down Tessier and he’s going off. . . . The 50/50 winner will go home with $11,930. . . . As they announce the winner number, Moncton F Alex Saulnier walks to the front and stuffs the puck through Jones. It’s 4-2 and it’s really uphill now for Calgary. . . . The WHL is looking at opening 0-2 on its home turf. . . . Calgary D Giffen Nyren dipsy-doodles down the right side, shoots wide and here comes Moncton on a 2-on-1. Jones makes the save. . . . There’s a cross-bar for Moncton F Marek Hrivik and that’s at least the third pipe for the Wildcats in this one. . . . TV timeout with Moncton leading 4-2, holding a 33-20 edge in shots and 10:05 to play. . . . Attendance is 5,123. . . . Moncton D Simon Jodoin is going off interference and this may be Calgary’s last chance to get back into this one. . . . There’s Nyren with a point shot through traffic on the PP and it’s 4-3 with 5:45 to play. . . . Moncton has become awfully passive and now it’s tied. It looked like the first chance, by F Kris Foucault was in, but it looks as though it went off the post and Riopel then kicked it in with 3:30 on the clock. . . . Assists to Jimmy Bubnick and Tyler Shattock. . . . Three ex-Kamloops Blazers figure prominently in Calgary’s last two goals. Nyren, Bubnick and Shattock all began the season in Kamloops. . . . And now Shattock has put Calgary ahead. It looked like a Moncton defenceman tried to rim the puck, it took a crazy bounce right on to Shattock’s stick and he scores. . . . Moncton calls time with 1:18 to play and it trails for the first time. . . . Riopel is on the bench for the extra attacker. . . . It’s over. . . . An improbable ending with the Hitmen winning 5-4 on Shattock’s late goal. . . . Moncton was in complete control of this one but got bitten by the dreaded two-goal lead. . . . Shots are 38-27 for Moncton.
