Game 2 . . . second period

SECOND PERIOD:
Hey, there’s Tom Gaglardi and Craig Bonner in a corporate box across the way. Of course, they’re at a front row table and, yes, they’re eating. . . . Gaglardi is the majority owner and governor of the Kamloops Blazers, while Bonner is the team’s GM. . . . Spokane Chiefs GM Tim Speltz is over there, too. Hmm, wonder how his search for a head coach is going? . . .
Kelowna Rockets governor and GM Bruce Hamilton is up there, too. Sheesh, the man gets around, eh? . . . Russ Farwell, the GM of the Seattle Thunderbirds, is among the the gang over there, too. Gotta be some interesting conversation going on there. . . .
F Gabriel Bourque of the Wildcats takes a hit early and may have injured a shoulder. . . . I’m wondering if we’ll see Calgary kingpin Brandon Kozun more involved this period. . . . Calgary D Zak Stebner is out there, paired with Giffen Nyren. Stebner missed half the opening period after taking a stiff check. . . . Moncton F Daniel Pettersson blocks a Nyren shot at the line and goes to the bench in some difficulty. . . . Pettersson shakes it off and he’s back. . . . No sign of Calgary D Jaynen Rissling, who left after taking a hard hit early in the first. . . . Kozun isn’t getting any ice time. Looks like they are saving him strictly for use on the PP. . . . Two Calgary forwards turn away from checks at their blue line and Moncton D David Savard gets a shot through traffic and it’s 2-0. . . . Shots are 20-7 as Calgary goes on the PP at 8:22. . . . No sign of Kozun on the PP. . . . G Nicola Riopel makes a glove save on Calgary F Kris Foucault. . . . Kozun comes out on the second unit with Joel Broda and Misha Fisenko. . . . Kozun is really labouring out there. Looks like he can’t put much weight on his right ankle. . . . Calgary got three shots on the PP but couldn’t score. . . . Calgary F Ian Schultz gets too close to the blue paint, his right foot brushes Riopel and down he goes, an obvious Oscar candidate. The replay is shown and the crowd roars in disgust. . . . Off goes Schultz for tripping. . . . Calgary kills the penalty but still looks tentative. . . . Moncton F Alex Saulnier comes out from behind the Calgary net off the cycle, spins and fires from the dot. He beats Jones to the short side and it’s 3-0. That one hurts the WHL champs. . . . QMJHL commissioner Gilles Courteau is in a box across the way. He has to be enjoying this. . . . F Tyler Fiddler gets Calgary on the board with a shot from the right dot. It came after some good work by F Del Cowan to keep possession near the line. . . . The goal comes at 18:52 and maybe that will give Calgary a boost. . . . Shots are 27-14. . . . Period ends with Moncton up 3-1. Shots are 28-14. . . . But you have to think Calgary will have some jump to start the third.
