Troy Jutting has been hired as an assistant coach by the U of Nebraska Omaha Mavericks. Juttings, who will work alongside head coach Dean Blais, fills the void created when Brian Renfew left for a scouting job with the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets. . . . Jutting spent the last 12 seasons as head coach of the Minnesota State Mavericks; he was an assistant coach there for 10 seasons before that. And he also played there for four seasons. . . . Minnesota State hired Mike Hastings to replace Jutting as head coach. Interestingly, Hastings had been the associate coach at Nebraska Omaha. . . . UNO actually replaced Hastings by hiring Steve Johnson, but then had to find another coach when Renfrew left last month.

The five-year deal between the WHL team and the Westman Communication Group begins this season. . . . CKLQ has been the radio voice of the Wheat Kings for the last 20 years. Bruce Luebke is preparing for his 20th season as the play caller.
