F Casey Pierro-Zabotel of the Vancouver Giants is the Husky WHL player of the month. Pierro-Zabotel, 20, had 28 points, including 19 assists, in 15 games in January. He had points in 13 of the games. . . . Pierro-Zabotel went into this week with a WHL-leading 89 points.

In Kamloops, LW Jamie Benn scored three times for the first time in his two-season WHL career to lead the Kelowna Rockets to a 6-1 victory over the Blazers. . . . Benn, who had 33 goals in 51 games last season, has 34 goals in 38 games this season. . . . The Rockets took a 2-1 lead into the third period where they outshot the Blazers 14-2 and outscored them 4-0. . . . The Rockets were 2-for-4 on the PP and are 11-for-23 with the man advantage over the last six games. They have scored at least two PP goals in five of their last six games. . . . The Rockets are 6-0-0-0 against Kamloops this season.

In Brandon, G Andrew Hayes stopped 22 shots as the Wheat Kings beat the Red Deer Rebels, 5-0. . . . It was Hayes’ first shutout this season — in fact, it was Brandon’s first of the season — and fourth of his career. . . . Red Deer has been blanked five times this season. . . . F Matt Calvert had a goal and three assists. . . . With GM/head coach Kelly McCrimmon away at league meetings, assistant coach Dwayne Gylywoychuk picked up his first WHL coaching victory. . . . Brandon also was without F Scott Glennie (elbow). He was injured when he hit an elbow on a goalpost in Calgary on Saturday. . . . F Brayden Schenn and F Mark Stone each had a goal and two assists and each also had a scrap. . . . With Glennie out, Stone played alongside Calvert and Schenn. . . . Brandon was 3-for-6 on the PP; Red Deer was 0-for-5.

In Saskatoon, LW Adam Chorneyko ran his point streak to eight games to help the Blades to a 6-2 victory over the Regina Pats. . . . Chorneyko, 20, had a goal and an assist. He has 18 goals this season. Prior to this season, he had 14 goals in 183 games. . . . C Milan Kytnar had two goals and an assist for the Blades. . . . The Blades meet the Oil Kings in Edmonton on Wednesday and are expected to have D Duncan Siemens in their lineup. From Sherwood Park, Alta., he was the third overall selection in the 2008 bantam draft. . . . Regina D Matt Delahey played for the first time in 2009. He had been out with a separated shoulder. . . . Saskatoon G Braden Holtby stopped 26 shots in winning for the 30th time this season.

In Calgary, the Hitmen beat Edmonton 6-2, their fifth victory in six games against the Oil Kings. . . . The teams won’t meet again this season unless they clash in the playoffs. . . . Calgary got goals from six players, including F Joel Broda, who scored his WHL-leading 40th of the season. He has four goals in 11 games since moving over from the Moose Jaw Warriors at the trade deadline. . . . Calgary F Kyle Bortis scored once, his 20th, and was plus-5. . . . Calgary D Paul Postma scored and ran his point streak to 10 games. Postma has 17 goals, two shy of the franchise record for goals in a season by a defenceman set by Kenton Smith in 1998-99.
