F Stefan Schneider played last season as a 20-year-old with the Portland Winterhawks. As the playoffs wore on, he seemed on his way to the U of British Columbia where he would play with the Thunderbirds. But a funny thing happened on his way there — he ended up signing an NHL contract and now he is with the AHL's Manitoba Moose. Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun has that story right here.

The Prince Albert Raiders are hoping to get at least one defenceman back off the injury list this week. D Jordan Rowley (broken wrist) has been out since the season-opener on Sept. 24 and may return Friday against the visiting Swift Current Broncos. The Raiders first play Wednesday against the Spokane Chiefs, who are on an East Division swing. . . . The Raiders also are without D Emerson Hrynyk (shoulder) and D Nathan Deck (knee). . . . Hrynyk has been out since being injured Oct. 5 so also should be close to a return.
