JUST NOTES: The Chilliwack Bruins have assigned D Chris Vanduynhoven, 19, to the BCHL’s Surrey Eagles. The 6-foot-5, 236-pounder is a WHL veteran and could well end up back in the league before long. . . . G Kraymer Barnstable, who backed up Tyson Sexsmith in Vancouver last season before losing his spot to Jamie Tucker, has joined the SJHL’s Nipawin Hawks. The Hawks just dealt G Derek Kleinsteuber, who was in his third season with them, to the AJHL’s Spruce Grove Saints. That gives the starter¹s job to Daniel DiCamillo, a 19-year-old from Oakville, Ont., with Barnstable in reserve. The 18-year-old Barnstable is a native of Kelowna. . . . The Portland Winter Hawks will be without F Nick Dietrich, 19, for up to two months after he suffered a broken wrist in a 6-2 loss to the visiting Spokane Chiefs on Friday night. . . . Spokane Chiefs C Justin McCrae (knee) didn’t play again Saturday. He is to be re-evaluated on Monday. . . . The Moose Jaw Warriors have dropped G Kyle Birch, 18, from their roster. He was 1-1 with a 5.14 GAA and .867 save percentage after being acquired from the Tri-City Americans on Sept. 22 for a conditional 2011 fifth-round draft pick. The move leaves the Warriors with Todd Mathews and Devin Dubyk, the two goaltenders with which they exited training camp. . . . RW Jordan Knackstedt, 20, who had 85 points for Moose Jaw last season, has signed a three-year contract with the NHL’s Boston Bruins so now is eligible to play for the AHL’s Providence Bruins. Boston selected Knackstedt in the seventh round of the 2007 NHL draft.

In Spokane, the Chiefs ran their winning streak to three games with a 5-1 victory over the Everett Silvertips. . . . Spokane (6-1-0-2) got goals from five players and now is 2-0 against Everett this season. The Chiefs won 5-0 in Everett eight days earlier. . . . Everett (3-4-1-0) scored the game’s first goal and then gave up the last five. . . . Everett G Shayne Barrie made 42 saves as his mates were outshot 47-20. . . . Spokane D Brett Bartman was plus-2 and now is tied for the ---league lead, with Regina F Rudolf Cerveny, at plus-13. . . . A moment of silence was held prior to the game in honour of Nancy Ryan, the mother of former Chiefs F Derek Ryan, who died suddenly Friday at the age of 53. Derek, a Spokane native, is playing for the U of Alberta Golden Bears.

In Swift Current, the Broncos won the battle of the Chynoweths, beating the Kootenay Ice 3-2 in a OT. . . . F Cody Eakin’s fourth goal of the season, unassisted at 3:27 of OT, won it after the Broncos (7-2-0-0) erased a 2-0 deficit. . . . The Ice, of GM Jeff Chynoweth, took a 2-0 first-period lead on early goals by F Drew Czerwonka, his first, and F Dustin Sylverster, his fourth. . . . The Broncos – Dean Chynoweth, Jeff’s brother, is the GM and head coach – tied it on F Keegan Dansereau’s sixth, early in the second period, and D Eric Doyle’s third, at 10:02 of the third. . . . The Ice (3-5-1-3) have lost six of their last seven games. . . . Swift Current had lost its last two games after opening with six victories. . . . Referees Chris Crich and Curtis Howe handed out only four penalties – each team took a fighting major and one minor.

In Vancouver, the Giants outshot the Prince Albert Raiders 44-11 but the visitors won the game, 5-4, in a shootout. . . . The Giants (7-0-0-2) still are the only WHL team not to have lost in regulation time. . . . The Raiders (5-5-0-0) are 1-2-0-0 on their western swing. . . . Vancouver, which had won its last six games, outshot the visitors 12-4 in the first period but came out
trailing 3-0. . . . Vancouver G Jamie Tucker was lifted after being beaten twice on two shots. . . . In the third period, Vancouver had a 21-0 edge in shots and scored three times, with C James Wright scoring twice and D Craig Schira getting the other. Wright’s second goal, at 10:14, forced OT. . . . Wright and Schira both have five goals this season. . . . Prince Albert G Garrett Zemlak finished with 40 saves through OT and turned aside three of five shooters in the circus. . . . F Dustin Cameron, the Raiders’ fifth shooter, notched the game-winner. . . . Vancouver was 2-for-10 on the PP; the Raiders were 2-for-7. . . . In Kamloops, G Lucas Gore stopped 32 shots to lead the Chilliwack Bruins to a 3-2 victory over the Kamloops Blazers. . . . Gore is from Kamloops so had a strong contingent of family and friends in the crowd. . . . LW Scott MacDonald’s goal at 18:32 of the third period broke a 2-2 tie for Chilliwack (4-2-1-1). MacDonald, who celebrated his 17th birthday on Tuesday, scored his second goal of his freshman season by walking out from behind the net and jamming the puck home. . . . The Blazers (4-5-0-1) dominated early in the third period with the score 2-2. In fact, Kamloops had 11 of the periods first 13 shots on goal but Gore was solid. . . . Freshman LW Kevin Sundher had a goal and an assist for the Bruins. . . . Kamloops LW Shayne Wiebe scored his seventh goal of the season, ending a four-game drought.

In Kelowna, LW Jamie Benn and C Colin Long had two goals each to help the Kelowna Rockets to an 8-1 victory over the Prince George Cougars. . . . The Rockets (5-5-0-0) had been beaten 7-1 by the Giants in Vancouver on Friday. . . . Kelowna had lost three of its last four, and has given up 36 goals in nine games. . . . The Cougars (6-3-0-0) are 0-2-0-0 to open a nine-game road trip. . . . The Cougars now are 1-3-0-0 on the road. . . . Rockets D Collin Bowman didn’t garner a point but was plus-5. . . . On the other side, Prince George captain Dana Tyrell, who scored his club’s goal, was minus-5. . . . Kelowna LW Brandon McMillan set up three goals. . . . Kelowna G Adam Brown, who turns 17 today (Sunday), made his first career start and stopped 11 shots. . . . The Rockets struck for six goals in the second period. . . . Kelowna had a 41-12 edge in shots. . . . Prior to the game, a moment of silence was held in honour of Janson Towers, a running back with the Okanagan Sun, a junior football team. Towers was killed in a motorcycle accident Friday night.

In Portland, G Calvin Pickard stopped 20 shots to help the Seattle Thunderbirds to a 4-0 victory over the Winter Hawks. . . . The shutout was the first of Pickard’s career. He is the younger brother of Tri-City G Chet Pickard. . . . The Thunderbirds (2-6-0-0) had been 0-6-0-0 on the road. . . . The Winter Hawks (1-6-0-0) have lost five straight, have been shut out four times in seven games and have scored only five goals this season. . . . Seattle LW Prab Rai had two goals, while C David Richard set up two goals and was plus-3. D Brendon Dillon and C Jim O’Brien each had two assists. . . . Referees Adam Byblow and Devin Klein dished out 188 penalty minutes, with Portland taking 101 of those. All told, 162 minutes were handed out in the game’s final 17 seconds – there was a line brawl at the final buzzer.

In Red Deer, freshman F Burke Gallimore’s two goals helped the Saskatoon Blades to a 4-2 victory over the Rebels. . . . The Blades (6-4-0-0) have won five in a row; the Rebels (3-4-0-3) have lost five straight. . . . Gallimore, who was acquired last season in a deal with the Spokane Chiefs, scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season to erase a 2-1 Red Deer lead late in the first period.

In Regina, F Justin Feser scored the game’s last three goals as the Tri-City Americans erased a 3-0 deficit and beat the Pats, 4-3, in OT. . . . The Americans (6-3-0-0) went 4-3-0-0 on their seven-game swing. . . . The Pats (4-2-1-2) had won four in a row. . . . Regina led this one 3-0 at 2:28 of the third period, only to have the Americans count three times in less than five minutes late in the period. F Taylor Procyshen, who is from the Regina bedroom community of White City, started it at 13:54 on the PP. Feser then scored twice, at 16:45 and 18:33, with Procyshen assisting on both. . . . Feser scored the winner on a PP at 3:42 of extra time. It was his fourth goal of the season. . . . F Matt Strueby scored twice for Regina, running his goal-scoring streak to five games. He has seven goals in those five games. . . . Tri-City was 2-for-10 on the PP; the Pats were 0-for-8.
