THE MacBETH REPORT:

And now for a little history: Ian McDonald's dad, Terry, was a young phenom with the Edmonton Oil Kings once upon a time. In fact, he held the WHL record for most consecutive games played (289) for 17 years; he didn't miss a game until his fifth season in the league. He played 68 games as a 15 year-old, something that isn‘t possible under today‘s rules. . . .
D Stefan Warg (Seattle, Prince Albert, 2008-10) signed a one-year contract with Örebro (Sweden Allsvenskan). He had no goals and 20 assists in 64 games split between Seattle (WHL) and Prince Albert (WHL) this season. Warg grew up in Örebro. . . .

A note from Charley Waters of the St. Paul, Minn., Pioneer Press: “NHL fan Justin Morneau, the Twins first baseman, invited a handful of Wild players, and ex-Wild forward Mark Parrish, to take batting practice at Target Field before a game the other day. Parish was the only one to hit a pitch off manager Ron Gardenhire over the fence.” . . . Parrish played for the WHL’s Seattle Thunderbirds (1997-98).

College Hockey Inc. (CHI), under the guidance of former NHLPA executive director Paul Kelly, has announced that it will hold an Ice Breaker Tournament at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, starting on Oct. 8. There will be four Division 1 teams represented -- Boston University, Holy Cross, Notre Dame and Wisconsin -- but that isn’t the intriguing part of this announcement. . . . What is really interesting is that, according to a CHI press release, “more than 150 youth hockey teams from around the country will travel to St. Louis to play in a junior tournament over four days. Featuring kids ages 7 to 18, the youth tournament will attract thousands of players and family members, generating significant visitor spending and hotel room nights for the region. Games will be played at seven venues in the St. Louis area.” . . . This, of course, also will give CHI a golden opportunity to preach its gospel, something the WHL does during its annual camp in Anaheim, Calif. . . . CHI also announced that St. Louis will play host to a 2011 tournament, too. . . . Yes, folks, the plot thickens.
